Awkward Silence Comedy: Third Best Place to Have Fun
By Brian M. Frange
The voting has ended. The results for the annual Best of Bloomington poll in the IDS Weekend are out. And Awkward Silence Comedy is…third place in the category of “Best Place to Have Fun on Campus.” Was this in the news paper? No but, we are listed here, on the IDS Weekend’s website.
It has been a semester of you were so close moments for Awkward Silence Comedy, recently coming in second place in the Chicago College Comedy Festival. Despite this, the group members try to look on the bright side as they stride forward. But, just how does the ASC cast remain so upbeat and positive after so many close and disappointing losses? Let’s find out:
Ryan Brown: As one of the newest members of the troupe Ryan is struggling to find ways to cope with the stresses of tough losses. Even though he did not participate in the Chicago festival, he still felt the “twangs of defeat in his gut”. Ryan has decided not to stop taking yoga classes at the SRSC in order to get over the disheartening losses. When asked if he was ever planning on dropping the classes he replied, “No.”
Brian M. Frange: As the group’s founder and leader, Brian has been hit the hardest with his group’s constant failures. He has chosen to distract himself with his favorite past time of fantasy football. Immediately after the results of the poll were revealed, it has been reported that Brian joined fourteen mid-season fantasy football leagues on Yahoo! Rumor has it that if he loses in one of those fourteen leagues, he will dismantle Awkward Silence Comedy indefinitely.
Alex Young: It seems that the losses have yet to sink in for Alex as she remains blissfully unaware with the current state of the group. In a recent interview held in Alex’s kitchen, she was asked about the loss in the final match of the tournament. She replied, “I am a woman.” as she pulled her eighth batch of peanut butter cookies from the oven.
Georgia Perry: Georgia, ever remaining sassy, made a public announcement pertaining to the losses. It read, “I do’s what I does. Aint nuthin’ gon’ stop me neway. Okay?”
Andy Blastick: Andy, who just recently turned forty-five, deemed the competitions “unimportant” and “lacking fiber”. He has decided he’s too old for these frivolous attempts at success. Rather than deal with the stresses any further, Andy has announced he will leave the troupe at the end of the semester.
Sean Liston: After discovering the results of the poll and the tournament simultaneously Sean, an avid scuba diver, jumped into the sea without any gear as he yelled, “I’ll show those fishes!” He is still missing.
Grace Friedman: Grace has tried to “dance out” her stresses. Recalling memories from her High School show choir, Grace has vowed to repeatedly perform her dance routine corresponding to Michael Jackson’s hit “Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough” until the results of the poll are officially changed.
Each member is putting in an individual effort to relieve the stresses of defeat. The group can take solace in the fact that the first and second place winners of the category were “The Indiana Memorial Union” and “Kilroy’s Bar & Grill .”
Since the group performs every Thursday in the Union, it’s likely that voters were confused, did not know how to describe Awkward Silence Comedy as a place and therefore defaulted to the Union. Kilroy’s, on the other hand, is not even on campus, so it doesn’t really count. No one can deny that Kilroy’s is on Kirkwood, it says it in their name.
Therefore, the outcome of this poll is clear. Awkward Silence Comedy is the true victor.
