ASC Goes to Oberlin Improv Conference
By Ryan Brown
Awkward Silence Comedy rocked the Oberlin College Improv Conference this past weekend, and boy, was it an adventure. When asked about the weekend, the group had much to say about what they had learned, sights they saw, and how EXPLOSIVE the local color was in the quaint town of Oberlin, Ohio.
On Friday night, the group arrived in Oberlin and were treated to a double bill show of professional improve troupes, The Irish Mutts and I Eat Pandas. Later that night, the inter-troupe mixer occurred, where Brian M. Frange’s own Quarter Bets made its debut to tremendous success with the PBR-wielding comedians. When asked about it, the group founder commented, "Put your pussy on the floor."
The next day, members of the group participated in three different comedy workshops in topics ranging from character monologues to free-form intensive lead by members of the professional troupes. Most workshops were wonderful and taught the group many new things about improv, such as Bibbins in the Con. "My hip just popped," said member Sean Liston.
That night, the group performed in front of the other student troupes at the conference and had a wonderful free-for-all of improv. Alex got humped by a toad. When the night was winding down, they decided to go back to their housing to settle down for the night, and Ryan emerged from the woods without his tie to join them.
The conference was concluded with a two-hour rap session that was so hot that Georgia performed "Puppetry with Penises," and Grace creamed her pants.
